Before we start: If you don’t yet have a domain for your Bookmark website and you were thinking about registering one from GoDaddy and then redirecting it to Bookmark, hold on a second! Did you know you can register a new domain directly through Bookmark, and save yourself some hassle? Check out Registering a domain through Bookmark for details.
If you have a domain from GoDaddy and wish to use it for your Bookmark.com website, you can point your domain to Bookmark.com by following these steps:
Step 1: Log in to your GoDaddy account
Open a new browser tab (so you can follow along with this guide), and login to your GoDaddy account.
Step 2: Access your Account > Select Manage Domains
Click My Account in the top right corner. The Quick Links window will appear. Click on Manage my Domains.
If you find yourself on a page like the one below, just click the Manage button to the right of Domains:
Step 3: Select Manage DNS for the domain you want to point to Bookmark.com
Now you should see a screen that looks something like this. If you don’t, you’re probably seeing “Card View”. Just click the List View button we’re pointing out in the image below (at the top right).
In your list of Domains, find the one that you want to point to Bookmark.com. Click the down-arrow beside the domain name, and then select Manage DNS from the drop-down menu.
Step 4: Select the DNS Zone File tab.
The next window should automatically open to the DNS Zone File tab, but if it doesn’t, click the tab so that you see something like this:
Step 5: Edit the A (Host) record
The first record in the list of records is the one we want to change: A(Host). Click the pencil icon to the right of the record to start editing it.
The Edit Zone Record window will appear. We’ve made it to the important part!
In the Edit Zone Record window, change the IP address in the “Points to:” box to Bookmark’s IP Address, which is: 22.214.171.124
You might want to double-check that you typed the IP Address correctly. And don’t omit any of the periods!
Click the FINISH button to...well…Finish.
Step 6: Save the Changes
Wait, I thought we were finished? So did I, friend, but you still need to save the changes by clicking Save Changes in this scary red alert bar:
Step 7: Check the CNAME record points to @
What the heck? Another step? Please tell me this is a joke.
No joke. There’s another step.
Please just take a quick look farther down the list of records until you find CName (Alias).
The Host “www” must point to “@” as shown below. If it doesn’t, click the pen icon for this record to update it.
That’s it! It might take GoDaddy up to 48 hours to make the changes, so please be patient.
And thanks for choosing Bookmark.com to build your beautiful website!
